Summer Begins

The school year finished this week at the same time that a heatwave decided to cover Massachusetts. I went for a short run on Monday and planned to go Wednesday and Friday... key word is "planned." It was SO hot and this was my last week to skip a run without feeling guilty. So, I did. I don't regret it because it was SO hot. Not hot, but SO hot.
MarathonMike and I joined the running club this morning for a run and coffee. My legs felt good and rested after several days off from running. I really enjoyed this month of running when I wanted. But, I know that I'm ready to go back to a schedule and a plan. Here's the one I've chosen... and it all kicks off in 2 days!
Happy Summer O' Running!

Destination Run - State College, PA

Another weekend in June was spent on the road!  This time I traveled to my alma mater--Penn State! MarathonMike and I were meeting up with our dear friends to celebrate their upcoming wedding. We got to see old friends from college and we reminisced about our college days. It was a fantastic weekend in a place that means so much to me.

I took advantage of our early arrival to do a 5-miler around campus. I didn't start running until after college, so I set out to make my run a mix of new places and favorite places on and around campus.

New Place - Part of the Bike Path around the Golf Course

New Place - The road along the bike path was full of beautiful houses that I liked... :-)

Favorite Place - Where I spent lots of time learning how to be a music teacher. Still have a lot to learn!
Favorite Place - Old Main

Why Run #7

Methinks that the moment my legs began to move, my thoughts began to flow...Only while we are in action is the circulation perfect.

Destination Run - Hunt Valley, MD

Just got back from a weekend full of family, fun and a quick run! MarathonMike and I traveled to Hunt Valley, MD for a family wedding. After 7 hours in the car, we were ready to take full advantage of the weekend.

The best time for a short run was Saturday morning from the hotel. It was warm the day before and expected to heat up again, so the crisp morning air was worth the early alarm. The roads closest to the hotel were pretty busy, so we decided to venture down a road off the main drag for a short out and back run. MarathonMike started a few minutes before me. He sent me a message that a trail was about a mile down the road. It was part of the of Northern Central Railroad Trail and a great find! I wish I had planned to run longer!

Then, we were off to my cousin's wedding in Glyndon, MD! The wedding was outdoors at Emory Grove with the reception in the historic hotel. The wedding was beautiful and we were so happy to have made the trip. It was fun to celebrate the wedding and have a mini-reunion with family we don't get to see as often as we'd like.

Congrats to the happy couple!

Happy Holiday

Today, I went for my first run since the race and it was... National Running Day!  Who knew there was a running holiday to celebrate?!? National Running Day is celebrated on the first Wednesday in June and this is the 4th year of the holiday.

Dean Karnazes explains...
It is a coast-to-coast celebration of a sport and activity that's simple, inexpensive, and fun. It's the perfect way for longtime runners to reaffirm their love of running and for beginners to kick off a lifetime and life-changing commitment.
I did my part by going for a short run after school. Felt good to sweat a little after some time off. I also made an official National Running Day badge to commemorate the holiday.

Rest Week

No running since my race last weekend. That's one of the things I love about running--running has seasons. Pick a race. Train for the race. Rest and recover. Repeat.

Fortunately for me, my rest time coincides with a fun month of events with friends and family. I kicked it off with a visit to Michigan for BFFLauren's wedding shower! My running story might not have begun without Lauren. She decided to train for a half marathon over a year before I did my first. Ever since, we've been training buddies!
